DMX is not having a great week. After just being arrested last week, DMX filed for bankruptcy on Monday, July 29th. According to reports from The Wall Street Journal, the man known as Earl Simmons filed documents stating that he had about $50,000 worth of assets while having debt between $1 and $10 million. DMX justified filing for Chapter 11 by saying it would enable him to reorganize his financial affairs. A lot of the debt DMX is in comes from back child support. he owes a little over a million dollars in child support. Another major part of the debt comes from X leasing cars. He owes $20,000 in car payments, which is crazy for someone who hasn’t had a legit license in a long time.
This is what DMX’s publicist had to say about the ordeal:
“DMX’s financial strains have been inhibiting his career for several years. Poor financial management by prior representation have caused him to be ineligible to retain a passport. The purpose of this bankruptcy filing is for reorganization so he can perform for his fans oversees. We are currently planning a tour in Europe and Africa for the fall of 2013.”
Our hearts go out to DMX here at Supreme Fabulosity. This is a man who has sold 30 million records worldwide. His debut album alone sold 5 million copies worldwide. We pray that the man who had 5 consecutive #1 albums gets his life back on track. We have always loved DMX has a lyricist. DMX latest album Undisputed debuted at #19 on the Billboard 200 with 17,000 copies sold, as far as Jan. 2013, the album has sold 44,000 copies. We wish you the best of luck DMX!
Another rapper bites the dust when it comes to the IRS. Fat Joe has been sentenced to four months in federal prison for tax evasion. According to AllHipHop.com, Fat Joe did indeed plead guilty to the charge, however he blamed “fancy guys in bow ties” for mishandling his finances. In addition to his four month sentence, he was fined $15,000, and has one year of supervised release when he gets out of prison. Fat Joe reportedly failed to pay $718,038 in taxes from 2007-2010. He told the judge that he will repay the entire sum. Even though he lives in Miami, he made monies in New Jersey through Terror Squad Production Inc., Miramar Music Touring Inc., and FJTS Corp. He remains free on $250,000 bail, and has to report to prison by August 26th. We wish you the best in this unfortunate situation Fat Joe. More details on the story as it progresses.
Another rapper is caught in not paying there taxes on time. This time is none other than Queen B herself, Lil Kim. According to reports, the rapper owes a total of $1,026,862.42 in back taxes. Just from 2009 alone, she owes $86,347.85. She owes taxes from 2002-2009.
In response, Kim’s publicist issued the following statement:
“It is a known fact that for some time TMZ has been running stories on celebrities or well known persons of interest and providing the general public and media with publicly accessible information on random celebrities and their private matters with the internal revenue service, this [sic] does not come as a surprise, as it is Tax Season and is a sell-able media opportunity,it is for no other reason that Kimberly Jones (a/k/a: LIL’ KIM) is now the target of such random media scrutiny. As it pertains to the story that was ran on TMZ(February 4,2012)regarding Lil’ Kim, we would like to inform fans, media, and the general public, that LIL’ KIM has hired professional attorneys to handle this matter(embellished by all standards via the media), and that she, along with her team of legal experts are working cooperatively and diligently with the I.R.S and federal authorities to amicably resolve the situation.
Publicist for ‘Lil Kim'”
It amazes that once again, another rapper, is caught up in not paying their taxes. We have got to do better, black people.

Heavy D passed away suddenly at the age of 44 on November 8, 2011 after collapsing near his home in Beverly Hills. RIP Heavy D!
And they say he couldn’t do it again. Well apparently, rapper Lil Wayne silenced the naysayers with debuting at #1 with his 4th studio album “The Carter IV”. The album sold a STAGGERING 964,000 copies in its first week. According to Billboard.com, Lil Wayne’s “Carter IV” is the biggest sales week for an hip-hop album (or any set by a male artist) since his own “Carter III” debuted at #1 with 1.01 million copies sold on the June 28, 2008 chart. “Carter IV” is also the second biggest open sales of 2011 (so far) behind Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” which sold 1.11 million in its debut week. Now many people will argue that Lil Wayne’s album should be the top-selling because Lady Gaga sold her album for 99 cent through Amazon, and Lil Wayne did not. It was estimated that Amazon sold 440,000 downloads of Lady Gaga’s album for that $0.99 cent price. Lil Wayne’s current single “How To Love” is his first Top 10 hit as a lead artist on the Pop charts since 2008. Congrats on all your success Lil Wayne.
Rapper T.I. will be released from jail on Wednesday (Aug. 31). It has been awhile since we have seen T.I. on the scene, and many of his fans are waiting for his release so he can get back to making music. T.I. said in a statement:
“When I touch down, I’m going all the way back to square one, like I’m fresh in the game and never sold a record. Back on some I’M SERIOUS, TRAP MUZIK ****… But until then RESPECT to all who deserve it. I’ll be back at you in a minute.”
T.I. is said to be working on reality show that showcases him leaving prison, focusing on his career, and family. We hope that this time T.I., you stay out of prison. You have a wife, and too many children to be away from them like this. We are also looking forward to your next album, and for you to top the charts again. Best of luck!
