Lady Gaga’s “Artpop” debuts at #1 on Billboard!

lady-gaga-2013-3-650-430

As expected, Lady Gaga’s third studio album Artpop debuts at #1 on the Billboard charts with 258,000 copies sold.  Now, this is a far cry from 2011’s Born This Way  which sold 1.1 million copies sold first week. Now, even though she sold BTW  for $0.99 with Amazon, she STILL was able to sell over 600,000 copies of that album first week at full-retail prices. So the question is, are people tired of Lady Gaga already? We were expecting Gaga to do at least 500,000 first week.  However, this is still a #1 album for her, and the first single reach Top 10 status. She is still pretty relevant.  We are not a fan of the song with her and R. Kelly at all, and haven’t heard the album. If you heard the album, let us know your thoughts.  Anyway, congrats to you Lady Gaga.

TLC releases official tracklist/cover for anniversary album due out Oct. 15th.

tlc-20-cover

It seems like it has been forever since TLC has released something in the US, and it has. The last release from TLC was 2005’s Now and Forever: The Hits. Now, 8 years later, comes TLC anniversary album 20, and here is the tracklist for the album:

Now, I am sure that TLC fans are upset at this list due to the fact that there is only one new song on the tracklist.  That song is “Meant to Be” which was written by Neyo.  However, TLC fans, DO NOT fret.  TLC has just confirmed that they are in the studio working on a full-length studio album due out in 2014.  Some of the collaborators for that album have been Lady Gaga, Drake, Neyo, Dallas Austin, and J. Cole just announced that he is also contributing to their new studio album.  We are excited about the J. Cole collaboration.  TLC’s first time collaborating with J. Cole is on his hit song “Crooked Smile” which is currently sitting at #36 on the Hot 100 (Billboard).  This is the first Top 40 hit for TLC since 2002’s “Girl Talk”.  We believe that a TLC comeback is in full effect.

Don’t forget to catch the TLC biopic on Vh-1 premiering October 21st!

Lady Gaga announces dates for 2012-2013 “Born This Way Ball” tour

The time has arrived.  Lady Gaga announces preliminary tour dates for her “Born This Way Ball” tour.  The tour will start out in Southeast Asia, and Australia.  These dates will be followed by dates in Europe, Latin America, and of course, North America.  This is the first major worldwide tour since her last outing “The Monster Ball” tour which grossed $168 million from 167 shows.  On Feb. 7 Gaga unveiled a sketch of what the star calls ‘The Monster Pit,’ a general admission area she says “Little Monsters unlock it when they arrive to the arena or stadium.” That area is reserved for fans “who have arrived first, waited all night, + dressed to ‘Ball.'”

The tour’s first leg will hit Southeast Asia and Japan through early June, encompassing 15 shows at stadiums and arenas. Gaga will then play about 15 shows in Australia, ending in July. Beyond that, current plans call for her to tour Europe in August, followed by Latin America towards the end of the year, and then North America in Q1 2013, beginning in January and running into March.

“The ‘Born This Way Ball’ will perform 110 shows around the world,” she announced on Wednesday afternoon.

Lady Gaga posted a Twitpic of the first several tour dates. Check them out below:

Congrats! Lil Wayne’s “The Carter IV” debuts at #1 with almost a million copies sold!

And they say he couldn’t do it again.  Well apparently, rapper Lil Wayne silenced the naysayers with debuting at #1 with his 4th studio album “The Carter IV”.  The album sold a STAGGERING 964,000 copies in its first week.  According to Billboard.com, Lil Wayne’s “Carter IV” is the biggest sales week for an hip-hop album (or any set by a male artist) since his own “Carter III” debuted at #1 with 1.01 million copies sold on the June 28, 2008 chart.  “Carter IV” is also the second biggest open sales of 2011 (so far) behind Lady Gaga’s “Born This Way” which sold 1.11 million in its debut week. Now many people will argue that Lil Wayne’s album should be the top-selling because Lady Gaga sold her album for 99 cent through Amazon, and Lil Wayne did not.  It was estimated that Amazon sold 440,000 downloads of Lady Gaga’s album for that $0.99 cent price.  Lil Wayne’s current single “How To Love” is his first Top 10 hit as a lead artist on the Pop charts since 2008. Congrats on all your success Lil Wayne.

Congrats to Lady Gaga selling 1.1 million copies of “Born This Way” album in a week!

Say what you want about Lady Gaga, but she is killing the music industry right now.  According to Billboard, Lady Gaga debuted at the top of the Billboard Top 200 album’s chart with 1,108,000 copies sold (1.1 million) in one week.  People are saying that she wouldn’t have sold that much if it wasn’t for a promotional campaign that Amazon had.  Amazon sold the album for one day only at the price of $0.99.  However, the sales only added up for about 40% of the total album sales.  This means that she sold 650,000+ copies of her album at full retail price.  That is still amazing.  The three singles to appear from the album so far are:  “Born This Way”, “Judas”, and “Edge of Glory”.  This is the highest one week sales of an album so far this year.  She is the fifth woman in Billboard history to nab sales of a million or better in one week.  The others are:

-Whitney Houston “The Bodyguard” album (in 1992 over the christmas shopping week…1,061,000)

-Britney Spears “Oops…I Did It Again” (in 2000, she debuted with 1,319,000 copies sold in a week)

-Norah Jones “Feels Like Home” (debuted with 1.022,000 copies sold in a week in 2004)

-Taylor Swift “Speak Now” (2010…she debuted with 1,047,000 copies sold in a week)

This is also the highest amount of copies that an album as sold in a week since 50 Cent’s 2005 sophomore album “The Massacre”.  That album sold 1, 141,000 copies in its debut week.  The news doesn’t stop there for Lady Gaga she is expected to stay atop of the Billboard Top 200 album’s chart next week with an estimated 200,000 more copies to be sold this week. CONGRATS ON ALL YOUR SUCCESS GAGA, YOU DESERVE IT!
